so... //it's been a crazy few weeks. currently just outside paris, on a mini-holiday of sorts, biding my time until a few things get sorted out.. the current plan is to be here for at least a few months.

in the meantime- took the train into the city on wednesday and ran around on the metro all day; between multiple stops, I finally got a chance to stop in the citroën showroom on the champs élysées. apparently there's one for peugeot too?!//definitely on my list for the next time.....duh

stupidly, these are the only pictures i took the whole day....inside, it's a weird concept, but the environment is nice and airy and colorful/ only wish they had had more on display.

Paris and stuff

so.... didn't really mention it, but my class went to paris two weeks ago for the auto show and a few other events. the city and the show never cease to amaze me.... you can't even imagine the scale of the Mondial- think detroit times at LEAST 5 or 6. the number of vehicles is incredible-- you could spend three full days there and still not see it all... and the CONCEPTS- holy shit. it's so awesome to see in person all these concepts that we drool over on our computer screens.

we also popped over to london for a day, via the eurostar- caught the train at 630 am, caught it back at 8 pm the same day. crazy. it was my first time really spending time there and exploring, so that was cool, but there wasn't enough time to even skip around to all the major sights. we stopped in at the RCA too- pretty cool place, but small! The city is great, though; a completely different vibe from Paris or any other european city I've been to.

SO...busyBUSY summer. back at school, starting my fourth (?!!!!safsdjlsWTF) year- seems impossible that this is here already. my 3 months@chrysler were great_ both a major inspiration and huge education... a bunch of genuine, inspired, crazy, awesome people . learned a tizzity-ton... seriously.... and learned to focus on what's important.

for our proj, we teamed with Ray B from the wounded artist project to create a booklet that educates people about various careers in ID and gives some step-by-step breakdowns for drawing fun stuff. check the whole book out HERE.

finally figured out what was wrong with DG, so LOOK- a cool exploded view. Exciting, I know. And I was feeling extra crafty so I modeled that lil fastener in about 10 minutes in maya... it's all about the details, right?...

also... back at school... like I never even left, every time. FL was a blast, but I kept forgetting to bring my camera along wherever I went, so pictures are sadly lacking :(

...in the good ol' days of high school, aka before I started trans design, I read A LOT but obviously there isn't as much time for such frivolities these days. But I can't fall asleep- even after a long workday- without reading SOMETHING, so I stole a few classics from the basement- Leaves of Grass, Sons and Lovers, Death Comes for the Archbishop, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man- and some newer stuff, like Cradle to Cradle (definitely a MUST read if you're a designer, or actually anyone) and Aloft. Should keep me well-read for the rest of the year since I can only get through a few pages before I pass out.

Finally! Took me long enough to get this up.

Aaaand here we go- just warning you, it's REALLY long:

REMIX is Chevy’s answer to reconnecting with the youth market. Busy, on-the-go, and always connected, gen Y-ers crave novelty and seek to differentiate themselves from their parents.

REMIX is a chevy sub-brand focused on a creating a fresh approach to vehicle branding, sales, and customization, and is specifically targeted at ages 16-24.

The REMIX brand consists of a small, iconic vehicle paired with a bevy of products aimed at attracting young customers to the brand.

Instead of focusing on designing for a single customer, I chose to define a ‘bandwidth’ that encompasses the whole demographic I’m trying to reach- essentially all kids between the ages of 16 and 24.

After defining my core customers, I compiled a collage of edgy brands that would appeal to this demographic and that I want to benchmark and emulate.

Then I broke two of those brands (Skullcandy and Burton) down even further and analyzed their branding and marketing strategies to figure out what has made them so successful with the target market- some of those strategies could later be used to boost the REMIX brand

Vehicle design: the vehicle is essentially a blank white canvas with designated places for interchangeable bezels- around the hood, around the headlights, wheel inserts- and graphics

INTERIOR- can be physically or digitally customized

-also, like the exterior, a simple canvas with interchangeable parts- bezels on the dash, console, etc- and changeable seat cushions

-digital plug-n-play customization- plug the REMIX USB drive into the dash and all of your settings are automatically applied to the vehicle- colors, screens, locations, radio stations, etc.

REMIX PASSPORT- designated area on the back of the vehicle to put stickers, stamps, etc- like a passport/visa, allows you to express yourself and show others where you’ve been and what you’ve done- could also be a digital LCD screen

MARKETING: A COMPANT MUST DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR THIS DEMOGRAPHIC- not the traditional advertising with TV commercials, billboards, etc

Guerrilla marketing- basically go on tour n the summer to major music festivals- Bonnaroo, SXSW, Lollapalooza, Warped Tour, etc.

REMIX parties- pass out invites at REMIX concerts for late-night REMIX shindigs

THESE CUSTOMERS ARE ALWAYS CONNECTED, so advertise to them through digital means

Cartoonize the vehicle- have it randomly show up in the background of popular TV shows, etc, random pages in magazines

This demographic spend TONS of time on facebook, iPhones, etc playing games/apps

SO...create a few facebook/ cellphone apps and give them out for free

Brand recognition can be gained by viral/demographic-specific marketing techniques- kids are encouraged to visit the REMIX website/kiosk and rewarded with REMIX ‘points’ that can be used to purchase different items

REMIX items are sold in vending machines- a NOVEL BUYING EXPERIENCE

the vending machines are located in high-traffic areas: airports, college campuses, malls, etc.
